What Makes our Cotton Socks Good for Skin Conditions Like Eczema?
Q for Quinn started when our founder could not find a pair of socks that was breathable and gentle enough for eczema. This is why we created our first pairs of cotton socks. Cotton is best for skin conditions as it is a natural material that is breathable and hypoallergenic. This is why right out of the gate our socks became known as the “eczema socks.”
Beyond just the quality and softness of these socks, though, you’ll love the ethical sourcing and sustainable manufacturing processes we employ. The facilities we work with are family-owned in Portugal and Sri Lanka. Plus, we’ve partnered with Mary’s Meals to donate a meal for each pair of socks sold. Your purchase allows a hungry child in the country’s poorest neighborhoods to eat lunch at school. This is a purchase you can feel good about - not just because you’re unlocking all-day comfort for your feet. Help us leave the world a better place by shopping our collection of pure cotton socks for today!
Why Not Fully 100% Cotton Socks?
Cotton on its own has limited stretch and therefore elastane is often used to give the fabric some stretch. In theory, 100% cotton socks can be made. However, unlike a T-shirt or a dress, making an item such as a sock that requires elasticity and stretch is a lot more complicated. With socks, making a 100% cotton sock that stretches, holds up, and is durable is almost impossible. We, therefore, designed these socks to contain the highest composition of cotton without compromising on this functionality and fit. Without a bit of elastane, the socks will not hold up and will keep falling down!
Worried about how safe these socks are? These have been tested free from harmful chemicals and dyes. Every pair is certified by GOTS to the highest organic standards. Our socks carry the label GOTS Organic label and we are certified by Ecocert Greenlife; Licence #256894
Why Does Organic Cotton Matter?
Here are 5 specific reasons why organic cotton is better than conventional cotton.
- Healthier for you: Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This means that you are not exposed to harmful chemicals that can have negative effects on your health.
- Better for the environment: Organic cotton farming practices promote healthier soil and reduce water usage. These practices also reduce the risk of soil erosion and help preserve biodiversity.
- More sustainable: Organic cotton farming relies on natural methods and materials, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to a more sustainable production process.
- Softer and more comfortable: Organic cotton is often softer and more comfortable than regular cotton due to the lack of harsh chemicals used in the growing and manufacturing processes.
- Supports fair trade and labor practices: Many organic cotton farmers and manufacturers adhere to fair trade and labor practices, ensuring that workers are treated fairly and receive fair wages for their labor.
We are also proud to be a GOTS-certified organic brand. This certification is proof that our cotton products are organic, traceable, and woven with ethics. Our organic cotton is grown without the use of harsh chemicals or GMOs. As a result, it is a healthier choice for both you and the environment.
Our socks are traceable back to the farmers who grew the cotton and are made in OEKO-TEX® Standard 100-certified facilities to ensure our products don't contain any dangerous chemicals or toxins.
FAQs on 100% Cotton Socks
Why is it hard to find 100 cotton socks?
While 100% cotton socks may be less common today, this is primarily due to the rise of synthetic fibers in sock manufacturing. Materials like polyester, nylon, and spandex have become the go-to choice for many manufacturers, decreasing the production of pure cotton socks. As a result, finding socks made entirely from cotton has become more challenging.
Is it possible to have 100% cotton socks?
Absolutely! With various options for men, women, and kids, brands like Q for Quinn offer high-quality 100% cotton socks to suit every style. From classic solids to fun patterns and even character-themed designs, there’s something for everyone. Whether looking for comfort, sustainability, or a stylish touch, you’ll find the perfect pair for the whole family!
Should socks be 100% cotton?
100% cotton socks are an excellent option for natural comfort. Cotton is breathable, soft, and kind to the skin, making it ideal for daily wear, especially for people with sensitive skin. It allows air to circulate, reducing irritation and keeping your feet comfortable all day. While blends with synthetic fibers are standard, many still prefer the pure, natural feel of 100% cotton socks for their softness and gentle touch.
How do you know if a sock is 100% cotton?
The most reliable way to determine if a sock is 100% cotton is to check the label, which should clearly state “100% cotton.” The sock is not entirely cotton if the label lists other materials like polyester or spandex. It’s important to look specifically for “100% cotton,” as a label that says “cotton” may indicate a blend rather than pure cotton. Additionally, while not always foolproof, you can often distinguish pure cotton by touch, as it tends to feel softer and has a different texture than blended fabrics.
